Default HP does not equal more speed, how to get more down low?

The "s" is testimony that more hp does not equal a "faster" car. We dont have big highways here, it is likely that the sheep on the road restrict long top speed runs, and a 100 kph speed limit. So what mods can be done to get to 100 quicker? Likely at the expense of top end power...

I will do that when I have lost all respect for my car, Porsche, and Ferdy himself...

If you were talking about an old chevy I would just tell you to get a lower rearend gear ratio but in a Porsche that would be a lot of work. Smaller tires?

2.8 or bigger engine?

It's not going to be inexpensive, so why not just get a huge turbo and enjoy the top end power

Hey, I watched much of a New Zeland rally (1500 miles). Cars were leaving the road, at least one got a ticket (2 min. penalty to boot). Good show. S. Millen and all. When you mentioned "S", referring to 944Ts? If so, it was heavier and, I thought significantly quicker, too 247 h/p - 217. I know what you mean, though. Low rpm, quick spooling boost. A lot of these set-ups, MAF, K27-8 (better choices avail.) deliver deceptively good torque. 3800-4000 rpm and it's a good pull. A much larger increase in torque than H/P.

Steve Millen is pretty good on the hill climbs! Yes meaning the "s" has a slower 1/4 mile time, significantly slower. A reasonable measure of low end speed... I did not know it was heavier!

Steve Millen is at it again in NZ now - the 2003 Dunlop Targa Rally (tarmac rally over 5 days Auckalnd to Wellington) started with the prologue today. Steves driving a Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo. We're doing the Targa Tour which means we get to run our cars through the closed stages before the rally cars. We are supposed to be somewhat circumspect about speeds as we don't run full cages, helments etc. Mines half caged with FIA seats harnesses etc so we don't mine giving it a bit of stick on closed roads

Top seed is a GT3, other Porsche include 996 Turbo, 3 928's a couple of 968's and a goodly number or other 911's from 1972 to late 90's

www.targa.co.nz

Best way I know to get to Wellington

Yeah, that Ford puts out over 400hp! Shoudl go ok, but Porsche always cleans up... same in Tasmania.

hasn't for at least the last 3 years !!! - RX7 Batmobile, Will Selles ran a 964RS last year and decided he needed more power hence the GT3.

No pace notes for the Targa, only a route book with tulip diagrams which slows the Aussies down.

Torque wins races, hp sells cars.

The 951 does the 1/4 in 15.1....the 951S does it in 14.2...how is the 951S slower in the 1/4?
