There are quite a few quality V-band clamp manufacturers that incorporate a lip and / or a sealing ring with fairly thick flanges that will solve your problem.

Anyone know if he could mod the old model crossover to the newer collector style?

Do not order Vibrant flanges! Call up Reid Washbun and buy a set from them. I think they can even do the conversion for you if you send them the cross-over.

What's up with the Vibrant? I've not used them I just know their website from looking up exhaust parts like "Burns Stainless"

Pretty sure I put a set of Vibrant on the last time around....that's why I'm looking for other options.

I feel your pain, just went through this nightmare a while back! Sent mine back to LR and had a normal fitting put back on. The V-band they used was Junk, sorry no other way to say it! Happy about the good customer service from Mike though. The new one is tight.
