Default Transaxle stabilizer

These supports were added to combat transaxle twist during acceleration. We are regularly experiencing torn boots. Eniac's shop - Autocore, hopes this will be the fix.

Will let you know.

Does the Lindsey solid mount help with this?

Any restriction should help including trans mounts, but I wonder if making it totally solid as such would have any negative effects? Old pic of ours.

We shall see. I did not design it but we are not running crazy horsepower here. The trans mount is a Kokeln.

A solid mount is not enough to prevent transaxle twist of high torque engines.

Hi disasterman, what's causing the transaxle twist? In theory all the torque reaction is taken out via the torque tube, so there's no torque reaction - unlike a "normally" mounted drivetrain.

Is your torque tube flexing?

Cheers,
Mike

There has to be movement through the entire length of the drive train including the shaft. The solid transmission mount is relatively small and does not provide a lot of stability for higher horsepower/torque. It's more of a hanger than a bracket. A contributing factor is how rigid the entire chassis is at the rear highlighting the weakness of the transaxle mount. Patrick has more experience documenting the twist on his higher horsepower build.

The factory had a solution for this in 1981-1982 for the new Audi based 5 speeds perfect fit for all 5 speed transaxles in a 944 I use one on my 944 and the early 944s use 2 mounts on each side somonce you add this one you have 3 mounts making it very stable. This bolts to the transaxle with a few longer bolts where steel gear case meets rear alloy tail section.

+1 Photo. Also what cars had that transaxle support or what is the part # on it?

Edit: I'm pretty sure that was the wrong part and diagram...

Here’s a picture of this factory bracket installed in car it goes over the muffler and bolts up to chassis with a large 1.5” or so diameter rubber mount you could use poly as well for stiffer mounting I like the rubber it firms up the drivetrain a lot when cornering on track helps in shifting. I have a extra one if someone wants to buy one doesn’t come with rubber mount just the alloy bracket in my pic you use a few longer bolts to mount it to any 944 gearbox. $100 shipped conus

+1 also interested in one.

Btw: thanks for information, never knew this existed.
