I've been hunting everywhere and I just can't find a vacuum leak. Anyone have any ideas? Could low compression cause this?

Actually, talking to a local it sounds like at this altitude 17Hg is about the best you can expect and I've seen as good as 16, so I'm calling that good for now.

15Hg is normal on that motor here Chuck. Even on my newer Audi with much higher compression motors I'd be lucky to see 17-17Hg.
My old 951's would see 15-16Hg, sometimes less. You're right in the wheel house...

I just purchased a 1986 951 , and tidy up so vacuum lines I get like 14 inches to 12 inches of vacuum at times. But I'm pretty sure I have bad valve guides and seals . Blue smoke on decel and at idle. I'm wondering is 135 psi across the board good for compression ? At 135 psi should I just remove head and inspect or pull motor and do rebuild?
