Tial Wastegates

If from everything I'm reading is correct then bigger is not better in this case. According to Tial, 46mm gates are not needed on higher boost pressures larger gates at lower pressures I think around 7psi maybe. So in most cases ie. higher boost 38's are sufficient 46's are not ncessary. Is this correct? Anyone switch from a 38 to a 46 or vice versa? Any differences? This seems to make sense because at lower boost levels the wastegate would have to bleed off more pressure ie. exhaust volume so a bigger port would be more effecient.

if your going to a BIG HP motor then a 46mm is a must.but on a lower hp motor like 400hp or less a 38mm tial should hold and boost, ofcourse im assuming that you have no vaccum leaks and such.hope this helps.

Mochman. You and Tial are correct. I'm a Tial distributor, and I often have people asking me the same question, and the answer lies in your post.
I'm running a 35mm Tial with 337rwhp with a 9psi spring. The only difference I see,is when I use a manual boost controler versus an electronic one. The difference is huge. With the Vitesse Kit and the MBC,I get full boost at 3800 to 4000rpm.With the EBC,I get full boost at 3200rpm.
We rarely sell the 46mm Tial, cause the 38mm does the job perfectly on our cars, and you save a ton of money with the 38mm.

We charge 350$us for the Tial38mm,including the adapter plates and bolts to hook it up. Whereas the 46mm is 495$us plus weld flanges at 62$.
Shipping is 10$ in the continental US.
You will have no trouble running a Tial38mm with 400 rwhp

Out of curiousity, can you explain what the differences between the 35mm, 35mmHP and 38 mm wastegates are?

The 35mm and 35mmHP are no longer available. The 38mm is the same as the 38mm HP.The only difference is in the spring rates. The HP comes with a 1 bar or higher spring rate.
For those that were unaware..... MySwiss is selling the plates that I designed and created. He just bought a set from SFR and knocked them off (which he admitted to in a thread earlier this year) because he could not come up with his own ideas. So........ if you want to support somone that is a theif and a crook then go ahead and buy from Myswiss!!!!!!! To make it an even easier decision though, we will match whatever price Myswiss is offering. Take care.
