k27/8 7200 series
I am thinking of upgrading my turbo to the above. Two things please... what does the 7200 represent? I have seen it mentioned it a bit here. Also, would it be normal for the center section to be a k26 type? Would this mean it will retain the water cooling, but would it restrict anything?

The K27 7200, is the compressor type. The 7200 series is the correct one to use (if you want a K27). You should retain the hotside #8..
Usually it'll be water & oil cooled..
The compressor has a 2.75" inlet... so stock J-pipe will require work...
When upgrading to this turbo, you MUST handle the additional flow. So tuning is needed...

What John said.
One thing to be aware of is that the K27 7200 compressor was the stock turbo on the 964 Turbo, and is a popular upgrade for 930s. If you are buying used, make sure it isn't a turbo for, or off of, a 911, since for some reason the centre sections are not water cooled. Something to do with old technology, I believe.
If you read the 911 turbo boards, they specifically talk about the 7200 compressor as being the desirable one, as it is more efficient than the older K27 compressors. I haven't seen a map posted, though.

Does it have to be oil and water cooled? Will just oil cooled work or does it need both? If you got a K27/8 7200 oil cooled version, can you nake it a oil and water cooled out of a stock 951 turbo

you would like to have stock plumbing(oil and water cooled) because it lengthens the life of the turbo your putting in.oil cooled is the main plumbing you need(correct me if im wrong),you can just cap off the water hose from the radiator tank to the turbo.and i think once you get a oil cooled turbo it stays an oil cooled turbo.pz

Perry, I am looking at doing the same as you. Whats the turbo like? Do you think it will be ok with my setup and some new injectors and j pipe? What do you think the max HP would be on one of these?

I have a noisy K26/8 that will need a rebuild soon.
Perry: who did your K27/8 conversion and how would you compare its lag and power with the K26/8?
Also, what is the recommended set of chips for the K27/8? I want one that's clean enough to pass California emissions.
