Default Tires for 944 Turbo 1988/89

Always the issue, limited choice for stock size for forged alloy 16" wheels
I see Toyo or super racy and expensive Pirelli Zero Trofeo R.
Anybody with experience of either of these, with other cars I have even imported from Europe ( pretty competitive price including shipping )
Thanks

And that's pretty much all your options.

RE11 are my choice for best all rounder but check out this link https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...stitution.html

Trofeo are meant to be great in the dry but sketchy in the wet. The outer band is continous and doesn;t allow them to shed water.

The Toyo are good and cheap, but not performance tires. If Pirelli has some, that is the way to go.

My build sheet for the car shows 205/55ZR 16 fitted front, everybody including Tire Rack says 225/50ZR
For concour originality is is 205 or 225, small potatoes I know.

There are tons of options for the 205/225 setup from Tire Rack. In my completely inexperienced opinion, I'd think the Dunlop Direzza ZIIs would be the way to go to correct the "slow" steering unless you plan on stuff getting into stuff like Hoosiers. Trofeo R's seem pretty awesome too but again, haven't experienced them yet. Depends on the driver and mods if any to the car as well obviously. I'm planning on the Dunlops once I have everything else in check..

Edit: Hard to say what would be "best" without having a plan for the car. If tracking get another set of wheels and go to whatever the biggest size you can fit.

for a street tire in 16", it's hard to beat the RE11. i have a pair of 225s available - slightly used.

+ 1 for these... fantastic summer tires. they also sell the re760 which are a better choice for a daily driver.

Are the RE-11's particularly loud on the highway? I had a set of RE730's once and they droned like an off-roader. Hoping the RE-11 doesn't have that issue....

Surprisingly quiet for an ultra high perf tyre. Way quieter than a Toyo R888 but not as quiet as a T1R, but way higher performance than a T1R.

I think the 205 was a winter tyre spec. All '88 onwards 951S and M030 spec S2's were 225/50 front 245/45 rear.

the re11 really isnt noticeable if you have any sort of high perf exhaust... they are as said above surprisingly quiet for the type of tires they are
