Default whats my car worth

hi, im not new to the list. i just lost my password when i changed computers. i need to now how much you guys think my car is worth. its an 86 951 with around 160,000 miles. the car is very clean, the paint is good exept for a few stonechips at the front and 1or 2 small dings by the doors. the interior is good expept for a couple cracks in the dash and a worn spot on the drivers side seat from geting in and out of the car. the modifacations are as followed. guru racing stange 2 map kit, apexi avcr boost controller, to4 turbo, boost and fuel guages, cross drilled rotors, momo wheel, sony black face cd player, lindsey racing oil brather, full 3 inch speedforce racing 3 inch stainless steel exhaust system incuding downpipe, tial wastegate, im sure im forgeting something. it had the clutch replaced recently and engine mounts. there is a problem with it. it smokes for about 5 minutes and after that it goes away. i havent figured out why this is. i do still drivers normal, theres no loss of power. and obviously from the modifocations it is very fast. here are some pictures. i also had some very short 13 second movies but lost those with my other computer, maybe someone has them on their hard drive. its a white 951 on a backroad accelerating from a standstill. there are more picturers on the 2nd page

thanks guys

sean

8-9k if all maintenance has been completed and you have records to prove it I would think. Also depends on your locality. That price would hold up here. Nice mods... unfortunately for the most part mods don't help the resale value much unless you've really done a restoration.

Good luck,
Sach

I second that. It is sad - but true. These cars are really at rock bottom prices these days...

Mine started around $9000, by the time I bought it, the price was down to $7800.

Maybe you'd be better off if you put the stock parts back on and parted out the performance goodies.

I just bought a 88 951 with 99850 miles and is a 9 out of 10. Paid $7900.00 for it and just did the clutch and tensioned the belts and some other maintence and that cost $3000.00 so now I am up to $10,900.00.

I think your car would still be worth 5 to 6 k without all the goodies. Especially if you have the records. Is the clutch good? the timing belt etc?
The high miles are the only thing that hurts you. From the pics the paint and interior look good. I would really need to see more detailed pics though. I was looking turbo a while back and wanted a 87 because the interior look more modern to me with the dual airbags. Then I started thinking about it and realized that I could get a dash cover real cheap and put what ever steering wheel on it I wanted.
If I had found an 86 or 87 I was willing to pay 5 or 6k if the work had been done on it to keep it up to date. I lucked out and found an 88 turbo S for slightly more. So I had everything I needed. LSD. all the goodies plus the car came with tons of parts to pretty much make it perfect. A complete perfect new dash! so good luck to you.
What part of the country are you in?

Shawn,

160,000 is a lot of miles (not that these cars can't handle it). Mods might scare some buyers away as it can give the indication that they have been hard miles. Last year me and a friend picked up a stock 87 with 112,000 and it needed belts hoses and waterpump (500 in parts) for $4,200. Cosmetically it was about the same as yours. I'd pull off the mods and sell them separately. You may get 5K for the car and $2500 for the mods.

I try to shy away from high miles as well. Just real scary. I wouldn't mind driving one, but when it comes down to reselling the thing with that many miles, its hard.

It all depends on the car. I have seen a few 200k cars that had awesome wheels perfect records and engine rebuilds etc that I would get? I hate seeing that 200k on the Speedo though! It makes you think twice before driving over a few hundred miles in the car.

My Nissan has 125k on it and I don’t blink an eye to go somewhere though.
I am afraid you will not get your money back out of these cars. They are really like any car in that respect. However they do tend to keep a steady resale value around the 6-10k range depending on miles and condition. There are rare exceptions of higher selling ones but they have been heavily modded and cared for well. And it takes a particular buyer to get them.

Anything outside a chip might scare a potential buyer. It would scare me. I wanted to do the mods myself. That way I knew what was done and how to tune it!

These things hold their base value as well if not better than any car. Meaning if you pay 6k for a nice car it is worth that value for quite some time as long as you do maintaince.
And the mods you have will sell pretty well also. Put it all on the forum and see how much interest you get. I bet you will be surprised! Do you still have the stock parts?

If not you can usually find most of it at a Porsche dismantler like PAP?
