Well, I think I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. Spent the last couple days assembling the long block and everything went smoothly. Here are some pics from along the way.

The living room before I started, took this pic a couple weeks back.

And some pics of the rotating assembly coming together.

Time for this bird to leave the nest!

Hey Timm
Well done. Have you patented the 2-crane engine transfer method yet? Or better still, did you take a video? Knowing what your driveway is like (rough!) I'm sure it would have been challenging! Sooo... the "engine assembly room" has reverted successfully to the "lounge room" in time for the RE agent inspection?

Cheers Patrick!

Hey Rob, yeah got it done just in time, the inspection is on Wednesday haha. So I have tomorrow to clean the living room out and get it back to looking normal.

I didn't take a video unfortunately, but yeah it was quite a pain getting it off the balcony. The crane was only just long enough. I was almost tempted to take the angle grinder to the balustrade and hope the landlord wouldn't notice

Hi Tim, just stumbled on your thread here. We've spoken on PFA in the past. Great to see another Brissie member here.

Your engine build has been a really good read. Great colour choice with the red and silver lettering (always been my favourite). Keep us posted how you go if you choose the VEMS.

Looking forward to reading more on your build!

Thanks Justin, I quite like how the cam box turned out too. It should look pretty good once it's in the car.

Us Brisbane guys need to have a 944 get together some time!

Some more progress to report.

I rebuilt my turbo and had it balanced, then bolted it up along with the exhaust.

Thanks guys.

Yeah it's got some oiling mods: a crank scraper, Lindsey gated baffle and oil pickup tube extension, as well as the big rx7 oil cooler that I had already installed.

That oil filter thread adapter looks interesting. I might look into it after I have used the two stock filters I have for the car.

That engine is looking the business now Tim. Should be a nice reliable setup with the K26/6.
Have you thought about turbo options for down the track?

Yes, I'll definitely upgrade the turbo in the future. After I get an aftermarket ecu, big injectors, big fuel pump and e85 I want to boost the engine to around 20psi. I want to get around 350hp at the wheels and as close to stock spool up as possible. So I'm thinking something like a Vitesse Stage 3 or a Lindsey Super 48 should to the trick.

And it's in!!!

Woohoooo!!!

A small jack under each side of the cross member made it very easy to roll under.

Good news everyone! My baby is alive!!!

Wooohoooo. I am so relieved and happy. Lifter/cam run in is complete, so tomorrow I will do an oil change and get her ready for driving. I still need to install my headlight motor and linkages, window washer bottle and air snorkel. I also need to jb weld the vacuum port for the brake booster back into the intake manifold. For first startup I just had the whole covered with tape.

Unrelated to the engine build, I also still need to rebuild my ball joints and front wheel bearings. So, with any luck I can finally drive her come Wednesday!

Here's a quick video of the second start up. The smoke is from the exhaust wrap.
