What's the deal on availability of replica KKK hotsides?
I know people must still run the replica #8 hotsides to make garrett turbos bolt on to stock exhaust?
I'm all geared up for a holset HX35 swap and have a perfectly good k27/8. The issue with the holset is I'll need the downpipe and crossover both modded for T3 flanges.
I'm also keen to do a 3" turboback exhaust. I have a buddy who can do the welding but I'm curious if the replica hotsides are easy/cheap to get ahold of? Years ago I paid 150 dollars shipped to my door for a #8 designed for a stage 3 wheel. I never did anything with it so I eventually sold it again for exactly what I paid for it.
I want to get the car together quickly and maybe swap to the holset later, but I'm also interested in getting more power than the k27 provided. I am thinking maybe a 60-1 hifi would be good, they are plentiful and cheap but I would need the hotside to make it bolt on.
Or maybe someone has a cheap oil only cooled LR super 61/stage 3/#8 housing? It can be broken even. Just trying to get a feel for what's out there and what the prices are like, I havnt checked out these types of turbos in several years.

yeah im not interested in a gt turbo, just curious about bolt on housings for old school t3 wheels. I wajt to use my holset but I'm on stock rods and worry it'll be too large to make tlit worth it to mod the exhaust. i'm only shooting for 375-400 rwhp and if I can get there with a T04E/T3 with spoolup that would match the hx35 it might be better.

Just machine the #8 housing you have (or a #6) to fit the T3 wheel if you can't find a replica.
I've got a T04E hybrid I should probably dig up and sell since i don't plan on using it.

But if you have the ability to change the flanges and ditch the vintage KKK technology I'd do it now rather than later. Might as well just use the HX35 now and just play it safe with your boost and torque ramp up until you build the engine.

Huh? I mean a GT turbine housing isn't going to fit anything but a GT turbine wheel, while you suggest that the KKK-flanged GT turbine housing would work with what the OP is looking after, which is not the case.

I didn't say that the GT/GTX housing would fit a T3 wheel, I was just merely posting that some KKK replica hotsides are available. Might not be the exact application the OP was asking about, but it sounds like he's thinking about buying a turbo anyways so I was presenting this option.

Well, no I'm not really wanting to buy a turbo. I've got an HX35 I'll be running, was just seeing if I could get a cheap stage 3 replica housing to avoid the hassle of making my crossover and downpipe T3 flange.

What some may not know about the Audi 20V engine is that the turbo sits on the headers, so while this KKK-flanged GT housing can be installed with minimal adaptation with a GT turbo on an Audi 20V engine, this won't be the case on a 951 engine.

Bumping this. I've been looking at this as well:

Blown 944 has advised that a T3 Garrett housing can be machined to fit. Does anyone have more info on this, or can comment to any degree?
I'm envisioning a HX35 coldside + CHRA mated to a modified 0.63 a/r garrett hotside, which can bolt up to the stock crossover and downpipe.... for now. Spool should be very reasonable compared to similar flowing turbos.
