Hopefully prices will continue to reflect an upward trend. These are truly one of the best sports cars money can buy. Every time I drive one I am reminded how good they are!

Well considering an 89 951 followed me home yesterday, I hope that chart is accurate. I think it is a bit optimistic, but overall the trend is right. Considering what has happened to E30 (not just the M cars) prices, I could certainly see a scenario where the 951 prices finally trend drastically upward.

While I'm glad to see that "the market" is finally appreciating the 951, this is the type of **** that has the potential to completely suck the fun out of owning such a car for some people. When the monetary value of a car becomes the primary concern of an owner, everything else goes out the window.
For reference, look at Porsche 911/912/914 prices compared to 10 years ago. Then look at the BMW 2002, E30 M3, etc. People who own nice ones are now afraid to drive them.
Yes, for those of us who already own such cars, it is great to see their value appreciate, but be careful what you wish for. Cars are meant to be DRIVEN!!!

I have to agree with the above - while it's nice to have our 951 values hold with inflation, it would be awful to have them priced out of reach and hidden away by collectors.

I am thankful for your previous two posts, gentlemen.
It renews my hope that greed (and hoarding!) won't take hold here the way it has with the aircooled P-cars.
sadly it's already started, on some level.
($70K 7K-mi '88 S, anyone? I can think of another one too but maybe shouldn't say. both have been listed FS for an awfully long time though...)

I agree with the above statements 100%, however what makes an air cooled 911 worth 3 to 4 times what my car is worth? They were always about the same price point until very recently. Just my thoughts and I will stop now.

This is something i'm seeing happening to old/retro/vintage Japanese cars. Prices/values have shot up soooo much in the last 1-2 years that the appeal is just totally gone. Some of them have even surpassed values of 944s and old Alfas.

Just went through a purchase of an 86 951, and I lost out on two separate vehicles, one 33.5k the other 32k, that were apparently both sold for asking price. Both sub 50k mile cars. Maybe 2 condition.
I was trying to negotiate too hard apparently into the 20's and no one was accepting offers below 30 on the really great cars. It's somewhat real ... I think investing in a 951 is still nonsensical, but they do seem to have some heat in the marketplace now. A year or two ago, not so much.
