KVDR, You hit the nail on the head. I personally would never want a condition 1 car, you would be afraid to drive it from a trailer to the show field they are that nice.
I have been involved with collector cars my entire life and my comments are meant to say that a condition 1 car is not a car that could even be described as "like new".

^^^ You two guys are completely on point.
And that engine bay is ridiculously clean compared to most. Not to be Capt. Obvious here, but white is arguably the toughest bay color because nothing can hide from it.
A while back I read an analysis to the effect that 951s were cooling off slightly in 2016... the Hagerty Sept. chart seems to reflect that as well, except for #1 cars. Not the worst news for folks hoping it's still safe to go into the water.

You are right, I don't know you. But I have seen this tired old argument on Rennlist for years, and especially recently as values of our old cards have continued to climb. There are several people on Rennlist who, according to you, are "greedy and hoarding" with 2 or more of the same car. That does not mean they are "artificially denying other people a chance to participate in the hobby" (that statement, again, is incredible). That means they enjoy the car and wanted to buy another. Their life, not yours.
This never went OT. This entire discussion was ON topic and probably needed to be discussed.
Welcome to Rennlist. No ill-will your way at all, just maybe use a bit more caution before you throw around comments that people are "greedy" because of something they do that they enjoy that you might not understand or agree with (again, still mind-blown that you don't understand but own 13 cars, but we can talk about that over a beer some day). I'd also love to hear about the 13 cars that you DO consider it acceptable to collect. I'm sure it's a great collection.
All the best.
PS
I feel your pain about the 930. I sold my dream car in 2010 thinking I would come back to it when I was able to afford the upkeep for such a car... THAT was a mistake. But I'll be damned if I begrudge anyone who was smart enough to KEEP theirs, or smart enough to buy more than one, just because I now can't afford my dream car.
Rudy is not greedy. He just enjoys what he enjoys. Nothing wrong with that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPjv...ature=youtu.be

Among many cars of "reknown" brands, climbing prices often wipe the scene off from many down to earth enthusiastic owners who are often replaced with clueless folks who foolishly believe they are doing an investment though they could not tell a screwdriver from a glovebox.
That sort of evolution does not encourage free & friendly exchanges of information anymore.
Since I get calls from professionals mechs who can't repair customer cars and ask for guidance giving nothing in return, I suppose I will just block their numbers.

Matt...
I do you see your point(s). You seem like an intelligent person though, so it astonishes me that you can't appreciate any of mine (minus the 930). I was also making a distinction between (1) people who collect cars purely for the love and passion of the cars, vs (2) people who stockpile cars primarily as a form of speculative investment - this BS tends to happen as soon as something becomes 'collectible'. Do you think that's a good thing for future of the hobby? I don't.
Taken to a hypothetical extreme: if some "investor" bought up 5,000 aircooled 930s and hid them away to "appreciate", you wouldn't have any problem with that? I don't what else to call it than what I already have. You know what would happen to the remainder in that scenario. Should they be stripped from the hands of hardcore enthusiasts and be a privilege reserved only for the super rich? You had one before, neither of us can afford one now, and that doesn't frustrate you at all? You object to me even implying how anyone should live their life, but you're okay with others manipulating how you get to enjoy yours?
I don't know Rudy or what he's about, but he's not necessarily a 'priority target'. Although, if we ever sat down and had a chat someday, regardless of his motivations I probably couldn't help but ask him, "FFS man, how many do you really need? Okay get all the colors, and then how about letting some of the rest of us enjoy a few? You know, have your time with them, and then pass them along... keep a handful that are really special to you." There's not enough to go around as it is. Another extreme: If one person owned all the Porsches, well then... most events and forums like this one would get pretty boring in a hurry, wouldn't they.
One of my faults I admit, I tend to speak sharply and in hyperboles when things frustrate me. My bad.
As far as my "collection"... it isn't much of one. It's just kind of happened over the years. Most are projects I'll probably never get to. So I was careful to use the word 'historic' and not 'collector' cars Hoarding stuff that not a lot of other people really desire... isn't really hoarding is it? Had nothing to do with investing. I guess that's how I can justify my hypocrisy.
Sure, I'd share a beer with you. There wouldn't be many awkward silences, that's for sure.
Thom gets it.

Sold my '88 Turbo S less than a year ago for $27K. Buyer flipped it on BaT six months later for $34K. I miss it all the time. Hang onto yours!
