Default crappy door pockets

Has anyone permanently taken off their door pockets or fashioned some speakers into them similar to the 10 speaker door option? Can you fit the 10 speaker door option door pocket to the older type panel? I am thinking of just taking them off and reupholstering the door... Little help.

If you find an alternative to the interior of these door, let us know. I'm told the 968's were improved. I have also thought that I could sell quite a few 911 RS type interior door panels if I developed one for the 944/951.

Even if you somehow managed to graft the 10-speaker door pockets to your panels, you will be faced with another problem, and that is, finding speakers that will fit. The speakers under the armrests are very shallow and an oddball metric size. I had been attempting to find exact-fit speakers for some time but just gave up.

Finally, I am no audio expert, but I believe the location under the armrests are the absolute worst place to mount speakers; the seats are in their way resulting in poor stereo imaging. You will be better off buying "plate" speakers to replace your 4"x6" units...The sound quality out of those are a lot better than the factory 10-speaker options in my opinion.

I would go for the 911 rs panel! I just think the existing pocket is ugly and not ever used!

I removed the map pocket from the drivers door because it was always getting in the way of my feet.

I took both of mine off a long time ago. I actually forgot that they were off until I found them last month. The only problem that I found with deleteing them alll together is all of the screw holes at the bottom of the panel.

The 10 speaker pocket does fit on the regular door panel, however, as noted above, getting speakers to fit, let alone sound good, is a major PITA.

The 968 panels are improved in that the top of the panel is rounded off, so that its not a sharp edge that you are resting your arm against.

Actually, I have a set of them that I am trying to decide if I want to keep or part with. I have the whole set up, including the door panels. The pockets themeselves are completely black and the door panels are black and tan. The speakers themselves are worthless and would need to be replaced, and the bottoms of the back sides of the door panels have the typical water damage, but cosmetically, overall, they are pretty nice and could be worked with to be extremely nice, IMO.

If someone really wants them, I have a total of $700 into it. Give me that plus shipping cost from KC, and they are yours. Trust me, I was shocked when I added it up, too, but if I can't get out of them what I paid for them, then I will just keep them for myself.

$700? Ouch. That's as nice as sitting on a tack, or having your 110lb dog jump onto your ***** in the morning while asleep, or having to restrain an urgent bowel movement while on a first date.

Why not make some RS panels? Just remove yours, buy some 1/4" thick hardboard, some 3/8" foam, and some nice matching leather. You could use the existing ones as a template, stick on the foam, cover with leather, add the window controls, and hey presto. You could probably find some nice looped door pulls at a scrap yard from an old '60s car to go with it!

As for speakers, just get 2 or 3 3" speakers (small so i doesn't give you window problems), fit them in a row on the bottom, and you'd even probably get some decent sound if you wired them up right (don't ask me on that..... I'm no expert )

Try pricing them out from some of the dismantlers and see if you can do any better. Parts Heaven gets $500 just for the door pockets alone WHEN they get them, which is not often.

As I said in my original post, its what I have into them. I agree, it may not be the best deal in the world, but its what it cost me to get ALL the parts. Then I sold the car that had the linen/black interior that it would have matched, and so I have much less use for them at the moment. If no one is interested, no big deal, I will hold onto them for a future car.

Regards,

I won an auction for the complete 968 panels pockets and speakers for $268 a month ago. The guy ended up misquoting the freight by $200 so I did not go for them. At $700, you wont find a buyer, I wouldnt expect...

Pikey, great idea about the panels, anyone done this?
