I actually found a supplier in the UK that sells that same 25 spline GKN CV assembly that LR uses in their "motorsport" axles. The shafts don't appear to be anything special and my guess is they are also an off the shelf component. If I remember correctly, Ford Cosworth rally cars from the late 90s had 100mm 25 spline CVs and the same length axles. I believe LR sources them complete from GKN then doubles the price on their site.

Length on our axles are 21.25" if I remember correctly. There is extra room inside the flanges, and I believe some people (Shawn for example) are running 22" VW BUS axle assemblies without issue. I do not have 1st hand experience with longer axle shafts, and maybe someone who runs the BUS / Vanagon axle assemblies can chime in regarding their length.

Interesting. From searching back in previous emails I think the V1 that LR provided were a 33 spline model and with V2 it's 28. So I'm not sure about the 25 spline parts?

They are 33 for sure. I have documented everything thoroughly on the FB 951 page including 968 axles. Including better retaining clips. Name: photo457.jpg

Looks like Eric is showing the ones from XShop, not the LR ones?

Hi Patrick, sorry partying in Hong Kong. Didn't have time to respond. Yes, pictures are XSchop chromoly axles which are really Empi Chromoly axles that he just cuts a secondary retaining ring groove into. Same 33 spline as factory. I am not sure about the LR units. There are some very good options from a place down in LA Pacific "Something" I forget now a bit hungover. He offers both 28 and 33 in much stronger Made in USA axles. His cages are great too, but then price starts to shoot way up higher than LR. I don't think anybody will break the EMPI's in the street without trying really hard to do so.

Pacific Customs Tom, specialize in 930 axles, but will make what you want if you pay them. They have a nice website.

When I get back next week I will take some proper measurements as my car is in the perfect state for this right now. The proper way to measure for an Axle fitment is to measure from the center of the concave cups from the transaxle to the inner stub axles or hubs as some people call them. Move the rear trailing arm through full range of motion to get min and maximums. As you can see with the new EMPI chromoly cages the amount of articulation in and out is considerably greater than stock.
