Will the 944S/S2 or 968 headers hold up to the intense heat that the turbo engine pushes out its exhaust? The turbo exhaust manifolds are made of inconely and are made to handle the heat up to a point. Not sure the S/S2, 968 headers can handle that heat at all. That is why I'm using a 85/86 928 "S3" head for a DOHC turbo. If you look up my old post you can use the entire turbo exhaust due to the exhaust bolt pattern on that head being the same as the 8v and the open 56cc chamber which is near the same CC's as the 2.5 8v head. A custom intake manifold will have to be made regardless of what DOHC 944 turbo setup is used. But with the 928 head, one could use 944S Pistons (same cc as the turbo piston 7.53 CR with that head) and the entire turbo exhaust. And if you use a standalone setup you can use the 944S/S2 968 engine wire harness, and use the cam sensor for sequential fuel injection unlike the batch fire that is stock. Not to rain on your flanges but I really don't think that the stock 944S/S2 968 headers would survive glowing white (past red) from the heat of what a turbo engine puts out.

No it's not, the question is will the meterial that the S/S2 968 headers hold up to the heat. I was just showing why I'm going my route regarding the headers. Good luck.

Some of the people in this thread are currently using factory 16V headers on their turbo set ups. They're suitable for a turbocharged street engine but wouldn't hold up to race application. Proper tuning is also key, high EGTs from a poor tune will cause header failure as well. Luckily, 16V headers are both cheap and plentiful.

I'm also getting quotes for getting gaskets made as well. Right now the options are either Copper Alloy 110 (.062" thick) or "High Temperature Gasket Material" (.031" thick). After looking at the specification for Copper 110, I'm not certain it is appropriate for use as a gasket material. I've got an RFI in with the company regarding the specs for HTGM to see if it will be a good fit.
Assuming we have 10+ who want gaskets as well, the cost would be $16/ea for Copper 110 or $11.50/ea for HTGM.
Maybe someone with a bit more metallurgy experience can chime in on the suitability of Copper 110?

As far as using the 16V headers for a track application, I believe Sean (JET951) is using one on his 3L 16V engine. His car is a street/track. Based on his track records and videos he posted, I think he pushes it very hard. Hopefully he can give us some feedback on how well the 16V headers are holding up.

Any chance you could make up adapter plates for the 8v intake to the 16v head? I'd buy that with the exhaust flange.

ramius665 was kind enough to let me have his CAD file for 16V head side flange. Im working to get some laser cut out of 13mm thick 316L. If there is any interest in those, let me know.
Thanks Aaron!
