Default What grade bolts to use in suspension?

Hey Guys, buttoning up the rear suspension but two bolts are stripped. Figure I can go to auto parts store and get replacements, but what grade bolts do I use? The bolts are the ones that bolt up the spring plate to the rear wheel hub. Thanks in advance!

metric 8.8 is similar to SAE grade 5.

should be more than plenty (check your old hardware for a marking, 8.8, 10.9, 12.9, etc and match that).

not a highly-stressed bolt.

I think you are referring to the two M12 x 1.5 x 40 bolts, and my recollection is that they (and their lock nuts) are grade 10.9. Cheap enough from Porsche, and $2.90 a piece from Bel-metric.

I was looking for replacements for these recently, and they were not available from the usual suppliers. They came up in the websites when I searched with the part numbers, but they all turned out to be NLA when I placed the order. I posted a thread about it and the advice I got was that it's risky to use chinese made bolts. In my case, they weren't stripped - it was just that some of the threads were damaged by the spring plate. I'm guessing that's a common thing - once you loosen the nuts, the weight of the trailing arm is hanging on the threads by the edge of the spring plate. But I just re-used mine since the threads at the end were fine. If you really do have to replace them, look for the hardness marking on the head as others have said - it'll be 8.8 or 10.9.
