Default 968 Oil Squirters Install Procedure

I am working on a race motor for my neighbor. I have a 968 block and just got new 968 oils squirters. Anyone have an install procedure or insight on this?

Anyone have the 968 manual? Procedure is probably in the manual. TIA

Ca't imagine it's that much different than in the aircooled cars. Tapped, threadlocker, and peening.

As per my engine builder its a complete waste at anything above idle. It would do didly squat with the amount of sloshing that goes on past idle.

Yep, and probably only in the 968 engine for warm up with the original pistons tight clearances and shallower water jacket.

The squirters are effective and a further evolution of the 944 block. They are particularly useful in a turbo engine to cool the piston tops and are a great performance mod.

Do you have OEM squirters? If so, they are inserted in in the main webbing under four of the main bearings, and sit on a machined ledge. They are then captured under the bearing. The factory seals them on the OD with Loctite 574 or similar, but I prefer a non-hardening sealant like silicone so they can be more easily removed during a rebuild/block cleaning. Since they fit snugly, only a very small amount of sealant is needed.

If they're NOT used, the machined holes need to be plugged.

Thanks Michael. Exactly the input I was looking for. They are OEM squirters. The motor will be a 500+ hybrid stroker turbo race motor. Looking for all the cooling we can get!

At odds with the advice I was given by a technician trained at the factory.

I was going to use 574, glad I read this. Thanks for the tip MM! I can't find a good picture of the passages for the squirters. If I go down to see the block this week, I will get a good shot.

Michael:

Do you have a preferred brand/type of silicone sealant?
