If by chance you get to read this. I purchased a real 1988 Turbo S in December and the car went on its first track event at Mosport last week and did not disappoint. I had a nicely sorted 996 previously as can be seen on my avatar which I must update. So I am impressed.
I too get upset when I see someone touting the virtues of their 1989 Turbo S that is for sale...Grey on black.
What make is the strut tower brace you have on your Turbo S . I like...please reply.

Yeah, great story.
I generally just glance over most articles in Pano, but I read this with great attention.
I'm jealous that someone can track their 951 and still have such pride in keeping it in better condition then new.

I have gradually stopped reading any kind of article treating on our cars over the years as they seem to be written by mostly clueless people, but if this one was written by Tom I would be willing to buy a copy... Any link?

Got my issue last night, plan on reading it today at lunch.
Panorama is SO much better now that Pete Stout has taken over. I basically just glanced through the old one then threw it away.

For if it were not for you guys on Rennlist, and other online mediums, this car would have never looked like this.
It's true !
I was going to go through some of my past PM's, to pull the names of those that had helped me along the way. The list would have some 30 + names on it

The help I got was endless. Yes, I dug deep in the bowels of the internet, to find information and the sort, but there was always someone out there to help me.
It's really very reassuring, when your a newbie knuckle head, like I was, who is just starting out, to find you way though all this stuff! Ripping apart your precious baby is a scary task..
A very special thanks has to go out to a very special person, for if it were not
for him, not only would this article have never been printed, but the car could very likely, still be on jack stands.

First, by giving me encouragement to get this project started and finished. And for all the
technical guidance to get through the hurdles... and there were quite a few !
I am very proud and fortunate to call him my friend, my very best friend.
Sharing one funny story: When I was first taking on this project of mission creep,
Tom came over and we were discussing how to go about tearing into the car,
I was telling him that I was thinking of starting the project on the
car, outside the garage, to the right of my garage entry where there is a
cement pad.
Tom looks up at my garage ( a two car garage mind you, which is absolutely packed with a ton of crap - you know the
10 lbs of $hit in a 5 lb bag -, well this was it ) and he says, "Oh
no, you will need to have to somehow shoehorn the car inside that garage, you don't
want to start a project like this and have the car outside ... "
Shoehorn? That one word killed me! It was his nice way of saying GET rid
of the ****!
Never, who would have thought, that it would take some 6+ years to complete?
Granted, it was on, then off for a long time, then back on again, but
still a long project.
So 3 things I would like to leave you with...
(1) Thanks to all of you for making this possible, I am truly humbled by all of this, and feel extremely fortunate.
(2) Two. If not for Tom M'Guinness, this never would have happened
(3) Now watch out ...
It's Hemingway UNLEASHED ! Tom will be writing more pieces, as he should, because he is not only a great friend, and a tech wizard, but also a great writer.
WHO would have thunk it !

It was a blast writing this article and working with Ed to get it into print. I give Pete Stout sincere thanks for giving me a shot at writing for the magazine!

I'm at a loss of words for all the kind things Ed said about me above--however misguided -- especially since I mostly just give him grief about his 'special' ways (both in person and now in a national magazine). But the sentiment is entirely mutual -- he's a hell of a good guy on all levels and I hope that was clear in the article between jokes -- even if he STILL hasn't cleaned out that garage.
Only thing I'd quibble about is his statement that the car wouldn't be done without me. Ed gets sooooo determined on projects, I'm confident he could build a working replica of the space station all by himself, using nothing but scraps around the house, if you gave him enough time.
I do plan to write more articles about all things Porsche, and will always have a special interest in the 924/944/968 series...

Just read it and can't believe how meticulous Ed has been over the years. What a quest indeed. Didn't realise you bought it new either. That just adds to the history and feel good aspect of this story. Nice article too by Tom. May you both continue with unqualified success!
