When I race there they place me in GT1 which is a class for tube framed ex-trans am cars with around 600 HP and straight cut gears.
To put it into perspective.... That car (ORCA) ran a 1:19 at WSIR 20 years ago in the POC.

Today... it takes a very fast driver with a $500K 911RSR to run those times at the same track.

The car is very light and back then was making well over 550HP at the wheels.

The owner needs to modernize the car's interior and analog gauges/switches. It's got a Motec now, but it needs a Motec dash and PDM, modern seat, etc.... I wish I would have bought that car as the starting platform. It's a bargain.

Lol @ carlege. If you have to ask such questions (does moving 15pound alternator count) you obvously have no idea of race-car building.

That didnt really answer whether it made a "real" difference? Do you place weights in the passenger side to equal out your weight on the driver side? Do you go on a diet before racing?

if every gram counts policy, and equal distribution really matters then its possible the answer is yes in the pursuit of a better track time (im assuming prize money isnt the pursuit) if the difference was measurable.

Or was relocating the alt to the rear axle not about balance at all... possibly less drag on the engine?

Yes, balance as racing rules will give you the minimum weight in your class with fuel, driver and gear.
