951 wins PCNSW Motorkhana ( Autocross ) round 1
Yesterday ( Saturday) round 1 of the Motorkhana ( Autocross) Porsche Club NSW at the Sydney Motorsport Park( Eastern Creek) Skid Pan ,Sydney Australia
Good turn out of this century Porsche's like 991GT3 , 987,986,996,Cayman's etc etc & last century Porsche's ( air & water cooled )
Naturally , nearly all this century Porsche's have a built in advantage in technology with a large range of electronic driving aids ( stability control etc etc ) & naturally even ABS is a given ( not an option ) = big advantage in the wet (stage) of the Motorkhana course
Where as the majority of the last century ( very quick ) Porsche competitors , be it the 911 range up to 1989 , 1986 951 , 944 series > 1987 , have no ABS ( was not an option in those days ) are at a disadvantage in the Motorkhana events
So it just goes to show , its not the car but the driver ( skill ) that is a major factor in these events
None of the"this century" Porsche's were in the contention for the top 4 places at all during the day ( so the advanced technology in this century Porsche's played little part )
Fantastic ( close ) tussle throughout the day with the 4 top competitors battling it out for the outright first place
1st outright = Sean Buchanan 1986 951 3.0L 16V ( street Modified Porsche )
2nd outright = Tim Bickford 911SC ( Street Modified Porsche )
3rd outright = Fred D'Cruz 944 1983 ( near standard 944 )
4 th outright = Darien Herren 911SC ( 964 /911SC combo )
As Sean mentioned on his Facebook page }
Fred was Mr consistant all day today , Darien had hit the lead early on but unfortunately hit a cone entering the garage , put him back 5 seconds behind Tim , Darien then got himself back into 2nd only to have a WD ( wrong direction ) on the last run of the day

Sean's continued success is astounding. Credit to both driver and car. You guys should take some video. Also congratulations to Fred. A constant improvement over the seasons is paying off.
Our Motorkhanas are quite different from the average Auto X. Much tighter and very often all in 1st gear. Fun, but difficult. Hardest part on a weekend morning was remembering the cone patterns through the fog of the previous evening's liquid refreshments!!

That's another great effort Sean, and to think a stock 944 could place so high just shows how important a well balanced car is in this type of event, obviously combined with some serious skills too. Well done
