I'm gathering parts to rebuild my S2 engine for turbo duty.
Are the stock valves going to survive or should I find/use other valves?
Hi, I had some exhaust valves made by Ferrea to take the extra heat involved. I delt with a man called John Vergerg. This is his E mail if its any use. john@ferrea.com
I bought all new 16 stainless steel valves back in 2007.
Though if stock valves are in good shape and you are building a street motor, no point in changing them out. They have been proven to take the stress very well.
I've been talking to Chris and Michael about this, they both told me that if you did a proper job on your head, the valves are properly sealed and the guides are new, the stock valves will do just fine (ofcourse if you are going to race your car and pushing it to the mega high hp's you'll need something different, but that will be at the 650hp mark i think)
162hp / cylinder doesn't sound too stock valve friendly to me. In fact that much power from one cyl sounds more like 'rebuild every session' kind of deal.
Here is my 'optimistic' bmw valve that cost me new engine.
I used stock valves when I rebuilt with new guides and seals, however I coated them with Swains thermal ceramic coating on the face, same as I did the piston tops, also added piston oil squirters too.
