It's actually the S2 r&p into the 5 speed box. Great for city and track driving. Not perfect for longer touring. You always felt like you wanted an extra gear. That's kinda why I like the 6 speed. Similar lower/middle gearing to the modded 5 speed but with the extra gear. Perhaps not for people that want to 'drive on the tq' rather than 'rev on the hp' if that makes sense. I check some videos and can see that it's a great mod for the track. Once we switched to the 6 speed I didn't think we lost too much due to too short gearing. I'd like to try a decent torquey motor with the stock 5 speed gearing though.

I just sent a request to a friend in Europe to look out for a few models of Audi gearboxes. They have 5th gears that range from .48 to .68

Oh and maybe you know this; I'm assuming that we need the gear for both shafts? Or am i missing something?

Patrick, thanks for posting up those charts, very usefull.
While having the turbo gearbox rebuilt , we noticed it had picked up on the cw/p and first gear, so swapped an s2 cw/p and gearset into the turbo casing keeping the lsd and cooler. With the 3 litre engine it accelerates quite quickly !

It certainly would! JET951 has a turbo'd 16v S2 motor with this mod and it's a rocket! I'd love to compare it without the S2 cw&p as I'm sure it has enough low down tq to compensate. Just out of interest more than anything else.

I don't have part numbers for just the gears/ gear sets. I wish I did.

If anyone is looking for a cheap way to increase grip at the rear, Audi V8 rear Torsen diff can be fitted to 944/951 gearbox. Requires just minimal machining and you can get 108mm output flanges for some beefier axles.
I made this mod to my S2 gearbox, total cost was ~200 euros. Not as good for track driving as clutch type LSD (Torsen does not work at braking, only acc), but for street car it is a very good option. Doesn't drag tires when doing tight turns on parking lots etc.
