Firs oil change (and gratuitous puppy pic)
Used to regularly change the oil on my previous cars. As life got busier this enjoyable habit stopped. I have resolved to make time to do iol changes on my 951. Got Valvoline 20/50 MaxLife oil, nifty filter removal tool that looks like a short-legged octopus.
Car is an 86 951, street only for now with light mods (Fabspeed full exhaust w/cat delete, Lindsey MBC and wastegate, Lindsey KLR/DME chips).
Which filter/oil combination do you guys use?

I've always used the Porsche filter, available at Pelican and other places. It's a quality filter and looks "right" under the hood. No real consensus on oil or weight -- but there are several long threads here with people debating oil merits. I use Castrol GTX (dino) 10-40 in the winter, and 20-50 in the heat of the summer. I find my lifters tick more on 20-50 when it's cold out.
Is your car a factory color? Looks good.

Factory color, Copenhagen blue. I've always liked that color. The paint is good but not great, but I am reluctant to re-paint. Here it is cleaned up a bit.
Do you hear the "lifter tick" only immediately after start up, or does it persist?

Thanks. We really love Duke. He just turned 3. He is bite work trained and if I had the time I would take it more seriously and have him compete. Now he is just a big goofy dog that happens to be able to scare the crap out of people, whether he means to or not!

The Mahle oil filters have a check valve that helps to keep the oil filter from draining when the engine is off. Filters like STP, Fram, Mobil 1 etc do not have the check valve so when you fire the engine up you have a void to fill, ergo lifter noise.
I am not positive but I believe the Wix also comes with the check valve.

Thanks for the info on the filters. I assume you have been happy with the Mahle? I may give it a try.
