And you painted them, not powder coated, with less pistons and parts to deal with / pay for.
Was your time not worth something? As far as a shop doing this for you, 750-1000 is not outrageous. Anything diy is cheaper, but 8 hrs of labor alone at any decent shop is going to be worth 750+.

I have to admit ... the cost is really crazy to rebuild these brakes
I am not know for throwing money around ...
In fact my Uncle once said," I was so cheap, that I hunt and fish for my breakfast"

I re-did my brakes (without having to replace the seals etc ) The time and effort was immense... I did go to great lengths to make it look right and stock and I did get great satisfaction from the finished end product but I think if I had to do it again, I think I would farm it out ... ?
I did have them powder-coated and farmed that out because I didn't have to equipment but did all the masking etc
I would post some pictures but this stupid forum seems to have expired my membership, before the due date of Feb Oh well ... sorry
Regards

The rebuild kits are including new pistons, which you don't need 9 out of 10 times. When you disassemble the calipers, check all the pistons and the bores of the calipers.
When i did my calipers, i only replaced the rubber boots and seals as they were the ones that needed replacement. The boots are about 9-12$ each.

Why wouldn't you replace ALL the pistons, boots and seals if you were going to the trouble of stripping them and powder coating? Even if the pistons are in spec they are without doubt worn down some after 25 years. $1000 is cheap insurance imo for another 25 years of trouble free use. Who would not spend $40/year for excellent braking performance?

Beg to differ as mine showed wear on all the skirts and were corroded badly where they are exposed to the outside. The only place they didn't show wear was the piston top that sits permanently inside the caliper.

PFC, your whole point was that 750 - 1000 was to much for a shop to charge. You are comparing apples to oranges, and the OP was specifically asking about how much it costs to have a shop rebuild and powder coat a set of 4-piston brakes. $75 shop rate is cheap. I haven't seen anyone worth a damn that low in years.

Fair enough. Time is money. Don't forget about the diminishing returns in time spent trying to source cheap parts, or the peace of mind spending the extra money for parts that have proven themselves. For me, $30 for a piston seal that works is better than spending 2 hours finding $20 seals that ?? might be Ok??
