I agree it's not a great idea to run it but how will the compressor fins get past the intercooler?
I hope you do not feel like I'm picking on you Tony.

The compressor fins won't break off as a nice little fin.
What happens is that the bearings start to go, which causes the blades to rub the housing, then metal shavings start coming off the housing, as will as little bits of the blades...
And these shavings and little bits will make it through the intercooler.

The answer is yes.
My "guess" is that you'll probably be able to make 10RWHP-15RWHP more with a K27/8 over what you could do with the same engine, same boost, etc.. with a K27/6.
But the price for those few HP will be pretty high in terms of lag.

BTW Majestic wants 650 to do the K27/6 upgrade and 775 to do the KKK/Garrett hybrid. That does include oil restrictors to keep the smoke to a minimum.

Ok, let me try and understand something. I f I got the T04B hybrid from Turbonetics after giving them my K26/8 and $640 as bdellis points out I would get back the same turbo as people like HR and SFR are selling for over $1,000?
I am guessing that turbonetics would just change the compressor so fit should be perfect right? Sorry if this has been covered before...

Turbonectics only sell new parts. They make their own kkk #8 turbine housing copy.
I agree with TonyG on the k27/6. That why i was going to get a custom garrett/kkk hybrid turbo to match the k27/6.
I even already have a k26/6 core. But at 500$ for the real thing is a good deal.
But that for next summer.

If I would have to do it again, I would either keep my 27/6 or go directly to the Vitesse stage 2 turbo.
The 27/6 does not make more power than the SFR stage 2, I had both of them and I listened to the sales bla bla on SFR web page which says that their stage1 and 2 will outperfrom any 27/6 turbo. He should be forced to take it off!
In that respect I second Tony's statement! Go for the 27/6, 500 bucks inc. a full rebuild is a hell of a deal!

crazy racer I'm interested in the answers to tonys questions also.
also anyone,
when I see a k27-7200 part advertised is this just the cold side?
If it includes a hot side is it a #6 or #8 or some other hot side that was used on the 964 turbo?
thanks

I have had my k27/6 installed for three weeks now and am very happy with the results. Because of the larger inlet on the turbo I also install a Guru Map II at the same time. With that combo it builds boost much earlier than my k26 and hits my 15 psi max at about 3k. Great street set-up in my opinion. I had turbochargers.com do mine. If anyone needs a low cost k26 to send in PM me. The k26 I just removed had about 70K miles on it. Bill

If you install the 27/6 you don't need to go to MAF or MAP, buy an adapter and cut the J-pipe to fit. Put in a K&N drop in filter, pick up a set of cheap APE or Huntley chips, shim the wategate, drop in a Bursch cat bypass and tune the car with the splitsecond ARC2 with the ARM1. Can't beat the performance for the price.
