Question What Gear should I see Max Boost? --- Fixed!

The subject line says it all. I'm trying to get the 15 psi that my GURU chips call for, but don't really have a chance to floor it in 4th or 5th gears. I'm getting about 11 psi in 3rd gear.

Thanks!

Yeah, you generally won't hit maximum boost except in 4th or 5th, but 11 psi sounds too low for 3rd gear. I assume you have the Reliaboost, in which case you should readjust it. I see about 1 psi less boost in 3rd than in 4th or 5th.

Simpson, sometimes it's easier to see max boost in 4th since you can floor it at lower speeds without accelerating as quickly as in 3rd. 11psi does sound very low for 3rd.

Ih ad same problem. It's your wastegate. Mine was even shimmed and only hitting about 10 in 1st, 12 in 2nd and 12-13 in 3rd,4th. Then it would drop about 2 psi in every gear by redline.

now, with GURU wastegate, 15 psi in every gear!! and holds it to redline. And boost builds faster due to spring not opening until about 10-12 psi, not 4-7psi with stock or shimmed. Mine was shimmed and opeing at 4psi.

Actually, no sure about 1st ear as redline comes up so fast, havn;t had time to look down

Todd - did you have about a 4 mm. shim?

It was the welt. shim plate. That sounds about right. I know there wasn't room for much more of a shim. Danno left the shim on it for the rebuild GURU wastegate.

I see my set 15psi in the upper ranges of 2nd and all of 3rd. I'd also agree your wastegate is not so good.

Typical behavior for mechanical boost-control gives lower boost in 1st three gears. However, 3rd gear should be giving you about 13-14psi. You can adjust the ReliaBoost and increase boost to get 15psi max-boost in 4th & 5th gears, but it'll be down 2-3 psi in the lower gears.

Thanks for the replies. The car is quite fast at the low boost I'm seeing right now; 15psi must be almost scary!

I'm used to it and wish I had more boost. Only my passengers find it scary.

Yes!

I'll be sitting there foot to the floor in 3rd going "Is that all you got?!?!" while the passanger is like "holy....****...."

BTW I see a 1-2 psi difference between 5th gear and 2nd gear.

Mine is the opposite. I'm assuming that this means my wastegate is just bleeding off the boost too early. I'm getting 16psi in 1st, 14 psi in 3rd and 11-14 in 5th...starts at 14 and drops quickly to 11 by time i hit 5k rpm's.

Yep, wastegate MIke.

I thoght that about 15 psi until I jsut got a ride in my friends with Huntley MAF stg 3 he just put on to match his K 27. Tuned for 18 psi. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

I told him to go with GURU MAP, but some guy online sold him the Huntley stg 3 for $800 and only used a few months.

Even with good P Zero tires, they break loose through most of 2nd and into 3rd.

everything seems to "break loose" when LSD is involved.
