How are you guys removing the head studs? Double nut, stud removal tool, heating and beating?

Use a collet style head stud puller. I tried double nutting but there was too much side load. See pic... ignore arrows.

I removed my head studs by heating them a lot. I spent an hour heating them up and letting the heat soak down the stud and break down the loctite. Then I double nutted them and they all came out nicely, albeit a bit squeakily.

I use a heatgun and double nut. Dont know if it does anything "or if healthy" but i always give each stud a tap with a hammer before removal

you can get one of these from snapon. I bought one, but then had the machine shop remove them for me.

Yes tap!!!. I did the same. A mechanic who's been working on 944's for many many years told me heat, heat, heat, and give them a tap to break the bond from the loctite.
