Default Newer Turbo's for 951's?

Anyone here replaced their tired k26-6 for a newer Garret GT or GTX Turbo Charger? I am in the process of doing the FOES, wp, belts, gaskets, injectors cleaned, vacuum hoses redone, AOS o-rings replaced, ps pump resealed with a rennbay kit, new ps lines, to make the car dry and free from oil leaks.

So, help me to figure out the best performance and reliability without spending $14-$1700 to modernize the car's MAF/chipset only.

I could always do the Rogue A-Tune and get a Garrett BB Turbo, but which turbo and what are the implications/complications in doing so?

Thanks much in advance.

If you are a competent Tig welder and doing it yourself you will be in roughly 2 g's just in parts........still need fueling and ECU upgrades, more $$

99.8 % of GT/GTX projects are dreams that never become reality, and I dare to say if you have to ask on a public forum you are way over your head already.

So, recommendations? We ask questions to help inform us, not to be belittled by people hiding behind computers.

I am running a Garret. They are not a direct bolt up to the Ks. There are several options out there to purchase the stuff needed for the conversion.

I have a Vitesse System for a 951 if interested. I purchased the system from a Rennlist member for my 951 but then sold the car. PM me if interested.

Thanks,

I'm trying to gauge what costs are comparing to either rebuilding the turbo 26-6 locally for $400, and getting the A-Tune for $300 to upgrading the turbo to newer technology, faster spooling, less lag, but staying out of the fabrication business.

I bought the 3bar fpr, 80# injectors, and 3bar map sensor for the M-Tune that I initially wanted to buy, but the turbo needs attention.

Should I stick with lindsey racing if I wanted to bolt up a newer turbo like the super 48/53? I've checked with Kolken, but they've have stepped out of the turbo 944 business a while ago.

Joshua told me the LR Super 53 was a good choice to go with an M-Tune upgrade.

I kinda agree with him. Not to be a dick but there are soooooo many threads in here about this. If you don't want the hassle, just go Vitesse. They produce good results and are bolt on. If you want something a little more contemporary, go for the GTX or even the BW turbo, but be prepared to spend some coin.

On a mechanically stock engine I would try a GTX3071R 0.63, preferably with a 9R cam.

It will help much to know a comprehensive welder who can handle both aluminium and steel welding and who won't mind spending the relatively high amount of time needed to modify the exhaust pipes and the engine mount.

I don't think Pole position was being rude at all. He was speaking the truth and trying to help you save a lot of time and money.

The you need to have the following to make a GT series turbo work.

Crossover to turbo flange
Downpipe
Turbo Mount
Oil feed fitting
Coolant feed and return fittings
Possibly clearance to the intake manifold

If you can handle all the above, you should proceed with the mod. Once you have all that in place, you will need a good tune.

Waiting for ThePorscheGuy to send me the info on what he has and pricing. Are you selling the turbo only for $1000 or do you have anything else with it, ie injectors, piggyback, chips, etc etc.

Thanks

I understand that I am not the first nor the last 951 owner that will prefer asking questions about today's technology for our 20+ year old vehicles, instead of sifting through outdated posts from 3-10 years ago that are no longer relevant due to companies closing, stop in production, etc etc.

I appreciate everyone's time, but there is no need to treat someone like a red-headed stepchild for asking questions in a forum full of knowledgeable people.

Thanks for the info on Vitesse, it's appreciated.
