Default VIN Decoder question

I am trying to decode the VIN on my 1987 951, I did a search using info from a previous thread and did not have any success. My VIN is WP0AA2957HN150665 and the only info I came up with is the year make and model which I obviously already knew. I am trying to find out what options it came with lsd? suspension? etc. If anyone can decode this for me or point me in the direction of where to start I would appreciate it.

Brent, you need to look at the option code sticker which is in the trunk under the carpet (I also have seen them on a back panel in the trunk on an AU delivered car). The sticker will list the options, usually 3 digit codes like 220 for LSD, etc. I believe a dealer can also find out the delivered options from your VIN but finding the sticker is by far the easiest

If you don't find the option sticker in the rear of the car, there should be a duplicate sticker in the warranty book in the owner's manual pouch.

You used to be able to call 1-800-PORSCHE with your VIN and they'd tell you the option codes, your car's birth date, and whether the fuel line recall was done. I'm not sure whether they still share the option code info. If not, Suncoast Porsche will do it for you for $10 (http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/VIN.html) and send you a nice email with all the data. Call it the poor man's kardex.

They charge for that now? I ran mine 5 years ago and it was free, just had to email them the VIN. Guess they have to pay for the person's time.

Here's what they give you though:

Yeah, it was free when I ran mine in 2010. They started charging a couple of years ago.

Interestingly, our cars are only 102 units apart. Mine was built 5/6/87 (Invoice Date 2) and shipped 5/12/87 (Invoice Date 1). Other random stuff: my car came with Dunlops instead of your car's Pirellis, so I guess they alternated pretty freely.

I could not find the numbers in the back so I will call and give them the vin. I was talking with someone that stated all 87's have lsd, but I do not think that is correct. I do however have a question, for 87-89 are all the 951 trans the same?

LSD (option m220) was an option in 1987 and is not super common. It cost around $750 (about $1500 in today's dollars). I would guess something like a quarter or a third of the cars were ordered with it. '88S and '89 transmissions have stronger internals, but the gearing is the same. There is also an optional external cooler available on all 951 transmissions.

Always best to check the trans regardless and not listen to the sticker. Mine had an S2 LSD (AOT) swapped in at some point. Wouldn't surprise me if an LSD optioned car got swapped to a non-LSD car at some point because of cost/availability.
