so as my car gets older, a lot of the rubber and plastic parts just have begun to disintegrate which i guess is to be expected for a 28 year old car but this part fell off at my feet and i'm not sure where it came from or what it exactly is. i'm guessing it's a seal at the firewall for the steering shaft???? anyone know for sure?

(and, no, my FPR didn't fall off at my feet and is just there for scale....)

you are correct, that's the piece of insulation that surrounds the steering shaft.

thanks for the info; it's always good to know what parts are falling off your car. i think the german life of plastics and rubber is about 28 years because all sorts of things are breaking.
