Had this on my '89 turbo as well as my past '88 turbo S: any idea what sensor is failing to communicate so it's ignored in 5-10 seconds and then the car runs fine?

I'd do a plug chop after 5 seconds and see if one smells like gas. Possible leaking injector.

It could it be the DME temp sensor that is underneath the intake manifold.

When my intake boot had a rip in it, it behaved the same way.

Unfortunately most of these cars have this same behavior. The only thing that seemed to help on mine was the fuel pump check valve. It still does it a bit.

+1 on the DME temp sensor.
