Default K29

Hey guys is a K29/8 too big for a 2.5 951.. I feel like it would be leggy, currently I'm running a K26/8 spool is nice but I need a bigger cold side.

Some would ask: what is a k29, exactly?
How big is that compressor?
And, is the exhaust wheel from the k29-8 the same size as the k26-8?
If the k29 compressor is way more than what you need, and there is a mis-match between the two wheel sizes, overall performance will go down.
What were your determining factors why you need more coldside?

K29 is huge. 2.5L would need some serious rpm to boost it and the compressor housing is not compatible with 951 middle section, since it is one step bigger. K28 comp housing will fit but again it is too big for 2.5 IMO.

K26#8 next to K29

Damn that's big, I only ask because a post here has one for sale, but that doesn't look like it will fit easy, I'm looking for something with a bigger cold side because I've maxed my 26/8, and I'm looking for a 27/8 or something like it at a reasonable price.

If you wanted to play, you could try and stuff a k28 compressor wheel into a k27 cold side. The k28 compressor wheel measures 54mm/82mm and flows 52+ lbs/min of air (compared to 36 for the k26 compressor and 48 for the k27 compressor which is nearly the same size, 52mm/76mm). That compressor was normally mated to a turbine measuring 71/82 inside a twin scroll 16cm^2 hotside. Commonly found on eastern european 18 wheeler diesel engines. Similar I guess to an HX35/40 hybrid. I doubt you'd be able to see the full benefit of the wheel (if it did fit) with the k27 turbine wheel and hotside though, but if you did get it on the car with a proper hotside and matching turbine it would definitely be good for 400+ rwhp.

The whole k28 cold side might even fit, it measures 230 mm which is only 2" larger than the k27 cold side and I know it bolts to the k27 CHRA (which may or may not bolt to the 951 mount)

K28 cold side housing fits to 951 CHRA but is quite big.

Its not any larger than an HX35 cold side, which fits with some light grinding under the stock intake ( space isnt even an issue with a short runner custom intake). But in my opinion since a k28 is hardly a bolt on affair due to the exhaust, its not any less work than installing an HX series turbo, which are vastly superior if you're looking for a 52-62 lb/min capable turbo that will easily support 400-500+ rwhp with the proper exhaust housing setup. (And really if you arnt after 400+ whp you have no business looking at a turbo the size of a k28)
