Default Back on the road after 2+ years with a small problem..

Hi all it's good to be back. I can't believe I let my car sit this long in the garage on jackstands, but a major house re-model and other shop projects got in the way. Here's what is finally done-
  • Full SFR 3" exhaust w/Swain coated DP
  • New front brakes
  • Purged brake lines
  • New Timing, Balance Shaft and the other 2 belts
  • All new TB and BS rollers

Oh and I also did the front crank seal while I was "in there." I don't see any leaks which may be lucky after sitting for over 2 years, but it still only has 41k miles.

Here's the problem. The Throttle Body coupler keeps blowing off as I'm approaching 15PSI.

Maybe I'm not tightening the clamp enough, but I never had the problem before. I don't see how the new exhaust could have any effect on that.

Any ideas? BTW I tried to renew my membership but can't figure out how to keep the same username and the powers that be never responeded to my question, so I can't list my mods. You guys that have been here a while know I have a Vitesse Stage 2 turbo, MAF, EBC, etc.

It's really fun to be driving it again, I just need the stupid coupler to stay on so I can see how much good the 3" exhaust did.

The alignment looks off quite a bit, is the intake manifold fully seated? I have seen before where the intake gets caught on the bracket on the front and also seen a hose clamp prevent it from seating fully.

I would replace that coupler and the IC couplers as well with silicone ones.

Also get T bolt clamps as they are way better.

You can buy all this stuff relatively cheap at:

I would loosen the clamp on the bypass valve and on both ends of the coupler going to the intake manifold. Realign everything and tighten it all back and see what happens. To me it looks like the bypass valve is pulling it over and the the boot is slid down on the intake pipe fairly far.

Are you sure the bottom of the coupler is fully seated on the TB and the clamp is straight?

You don't really need T bolts.

Make sure everything is seated properly. I had an issue with my new silicone hoses popping off. the issue was inside of the hose has a film of oil so i cleaned that with metho and been good since.

If you had those clamps re-plated, that may be the problem. I found that the re-plated clamps do not tighten smoothly and they often bind. Try replacing the worm clamp at the throttle body.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Loosening all the clamps and re-aligning as suggested seems to have done the trick. I don't think it was pushed all the way flat against the throttle body at the bottom as Adrial suggested. I think I had a couple too many beers toward the end of the assembly.

I still had a little cutting out problem on boost though, and after some searching found a crack in one of the IC pipe couplers.

Not wanting to wait for a new one to arrive, I went to Home Depot today and found this temporary fix for $4-

That did it, and it runs great.

I sure hope that original couplers are still available but can't find any by doing a search. If I have to I'll get silicone ones, but I think I'd rather get a used one to preserve the stock look that I've worked so hard for. I like the highly modified colorful look also, but for me it's all or nothing. Yes I know it would be better without the stock airbox, but I'll keep it like this as long as I can.

Thanks again for the help guys.

Hi Luis and thanks for the welcome. I got in touch with Jeremy and he's doing fine other than working too much to support his growing family.

Welcome back Kevin
Hope all is well
The car looks great as usual

Darn near all parts are available new. I've replaced all of those rubber connectors on my car pretty recently. Find a Porsche PET (there is one on www.autoatlanta.com) to get part numbers, then you can buy them from various sources. I'm partial to www.sonnenporscheoemparts.com.

Here's the one that split on you

Also, beware of both T-bolts and non-OEM hoses. The throttle body especially has a very narrow groove that is too narrow for even a typical worm clamp to fit in, so you'll be sealing on the elevated lip rather than in the groove. The rubber couplers also have narrow grooves. I would normally rather have silicone and T-bolts, but in this case, the OEM ones are probably going to fit better.

I got a new set of those couplers a few months ago from Pelican. They came in a Porsche box
