Default Anyone else?

In the last 6 months *two oil changes/track use* it has become increasingly difficult to read the oil level on the dipstick *86 so it's flat one*

Sometimes there's oil above and below the twists but dry in the middle.. others a sliver on one side and not on the other or a streak above the top twist and oil below bottom one..

Ideas??

Mine is an '87, but sometimes I get weird readings like that. The key is to look at the lowest spot you still see dryness. Any oil above that spot is transfer from the tube or something like that - not dipped in the oil in the sump.

Yes, my 86 dipstick smears the oil on the way up. One trick I use (due in part to my old man eyes) is to press the dipstick onto a paper towel. That usually let's me see where the oil level stops and the smearing starts...

On the other hand, I tend to change the oil every 2 or 3k miles, so it's never able to get low really....
