Gauge Cluster Refresh
Had to pull out the gauge cluster for some wiring and decided to try to clean it up a bit. Some kind of deterioration of the housing surface results in poor appearance. I pulled the gauges and the glass cover and then scrubbed it with alcohol and a tooth brush. Once thoroughly cleaned, I sprayed it with semi-flat black paint. Really made a huge difference in the appearance as shown below.

I have a similar issue, thankfully not as bad as yours. I haven't attempted to pull the clear cover yet. Did you run into any issues? Got any tips on removal?

Looks great! I sprayed mine with flat black initially and it was too dull. Semi-gloss is definitely the right way to go. IIRC I used some paint from Lowe's that's plastic friendly.

I swapped it in, and it worked... BUT the odo was broken. I put the 160 back in. I rely on the odo to keep track of maintenance and repairs and didn't feel like ordering up the odo gears, etc. I might do it this winter. I think the 180 looks cooler.

Removing the clear cover is tricky. If you are not careful, It would be easy to crack it. It is glued on the sides and the top. I have removed the cover on two clusters and the top center glue location is the tough spot. I used a heated razor blade to cut the glue. I use a mini-torch to heat the blade. Worked rather well. Used 5 minute epoxy to reattach the clear cover.
