Custom tuned chip?

Custom tuned chip?
Are there any shops which can custom tune a DME/KLR chipset to a specific engine?
I'm talking with a shop who deals with standalone engine management systems and doesn't do chips. I don't think I can stretch my budget to that, and I would prefer to keep the wiring harness stock.
It's my basic understanding that a chip can't be tuned on the fly on a dyno, and would require quite a bit of trial and error as the eeprom has to get reprogrammed and reinstalled each dyno run.
Right now the car has an off the shelf chip (Weltmeister). I'd really prefer not to lose power by going back to stock chips if I can possibly help it, but that is an option.
If anyone has any thoughts or could suggest places I may be able to talk to about a custom chip tune, that would be a big help.

Yes it can be done. I have it setup on my car, but it's not easy to implement.
I have the stock DME and KLR. I can plug in a USB cable to my laptop, open the program and tune my car on the fly while it's running.
The key components are an Ostrich from Moates.net and TunerPro software. One hurdle you'll need to overcome is that most aftermarket chips do not have definition files available, so you'll need to find someone who's familiar with hacking code. To go this route is a DIY type of solution. Honestly it would be much easier if you got Rogue's M-tune. It sounds like you're ready to take the next step in tuning, so ditch the chips and get a comprehensive tuning package.

I have a Vitesse chip for sale. It is one of the best static chips you can buy. It is better than the Welt chip or the Autothority, or MaxHP chips.

Rogue's DME Tuner allows on-the-fly changes. I drive around with my laptop plugged into the DME and can adjust fueling with the car running.
I did it on the dyno a few weeks ago to dial in new injectors, between runs without shutting the car off.

Way to feed the guy some oldschool technology.
These days you can get off the shelf chips and they are 95% spot on. \
Both of these companies are the leading in aftermarket chips. Both are tuneable in different ways.
Option A - Rogue tuning A - Tune. http://roguetuning.com/951_afm_kit_a-tune%C2%A9
Option B - Vitesse racing chip http://www.vitesseracing.com/html/chips.html

Thanks guys, definitely looks like a few options to check in to.
The laptop hookup sounds nice, but I have zero tuning knowledge so would probably need someone who knows what they're doing to get it dialed in.
