Default Spark Plugs

Hi All,

Just got in my COP's, the 0 986 221 050. They look really nice but are actually a bit too short. So i was wondering if anyone knows of the existance of "Longer" sparkplugs. And than not the part with the thread on it to get into the engine but the part on top. Mine are 40mm at the moment but should be 45mm and it would even be the best if they were 50-55mm. If this does not exist i'll have to get a M4 thread and get it on the mill to do the rest..

And than also; what are the recommended spark plugs for this engine?

Thanks,
Bas

Indeed it would help, but ofcourse it would be prettier if there were longer spark plugs!

same problem here, obviously.

Indeed - if i will not find appropriate spark plugs, we will fabricate a different top, but i would prefer a longer OEM plug..

I'm checking at the local hardware store about the studs Spencer showed and let you know if the are a viable option!

in a local store, you may be better off by simply measuring the exact lenght difference and taking a spark plug with you..

Bas,

any chance of some pics ? I've been chasing COP for ages but never knowing what might fit.
Lack of parts here means I can't experiment much.

cheers
Mike

This is what I did:

The spark plugs still stay well in the insulated area so there is no risk involved here. Still it would be nice to have it different! (these are 21mm spark plugs)

This is my solution with the COP's. They are from a Audi W12 engine and cost about 33 euro's each.

Do you know the dwell specs on these coils?

I could not find the Audi W12 part number from my parts supplier, but I did pull up a couple of Audi models that appear to use a similar coil.

A 2013 Audi RS5 , 4.2L V8 engine uses p/n 07K 905 715F. The Bosch option (cheaper) has the stem insulated by a rubber sleeve, but otherwise looks like what you have. The Genuine VW / Audi option is almost identical.

A 2013 Audi A8 Quattro, 3.0L V6 uses p/n 06E 905 115E. The Bosch again uses the rubber sleeve and looks similar. The Genuine VW / Audi has a red top but appears very similar again.

Have you tried any other Audi model coils? What directed you to specifically use the W12 coils over any of the V6 or V8 options? Do you know if any one coil model is more powerful than the others?

Thanks for the info!

He Vic, I'll try to find some specs for you. Raceboy recommended these coils to me! I'll contact Bosch to get some more specifications on them

as far as your reasoning to go to these types of coils, are you expecting to push a ton of boost requiring a better ignition system, or do you need the space on the front of the engine, or eliminating a mechanical failure point (distributor rotor/cap)?

Well, mainly all of those points! And as well as the easier tuning of the engine.

nice pics Bas, many thanks.
I can't see any hold down fixings, coils just pushed down onto the plugs ?

Correct Mike, that is indeed how they are hold down. But the connection is very solid. I'm not afraid that they will come loose.
