This feature is for circulating without the radiator to warm the engine up on cold mornings, so you can get the heater working in the car quicker. When the thermostat opens it blocks this water path off. If you are not worried about the cold recirculation feature you can block those off on both sides.

I modified my block to accept the 2.5 liter head. If I had it all to do over again I would have blocked them off and been done with them. While chasing various gremlins, I eventually removed the thermostat and blocked the path way off. Blew a lot of smoke trying to figure how the passages worked.

You may want to look at a high temp permatex type plug, or maybe even JB Weld, if you braize it closed with bronze you may end up with temperature warping. The cooling system opeartes at around 15 psi so it does not have to be super strong.

Ebay head gone already.

What kind of exhaust valves are you 16v turbo guys running in those heads?

I can get 3 16V 104mm heads for the price of one stupid 2.7 head. Complete 2.7 cars are fs for less than damn heads.

On the plus side, 16v lifters are still available, whereas 8v lifters are gone from the aftermarket. Porsche still has some 8V lifters, but a set of 8 will cost twice the cost of the 2.7 head itself.

There is another used 2.7 head on ebay. This one has solid gold valve guides and platinum seats it seems.

So for a 2.7 head, I should:
- put in 951 exhaust valves
- put in 951 valve springs
- (optional) ceramic coat

is that correct?
