Default Confused about crossovers

I'm confused about the right way to replace my one-piece crossover pipe (from a 1986). It blew out, at the track, and is now beyond repair. This is the third time that I will have taken it off/on the car in the last year, so I'm going to bite the bullet and get Lindsey to cut and flange the replacement. I'm looking at new (used) replacements and may start with a two-piece (such that Lindsey will make it a three-piece).

So, I found the following two items on ebay, and sent the seller a question asking if he would cut me a deal if I bought both.

He wrote back that,

But that cross-over pipe won't work with that wastegate tie-in pipe since you need one male and one female.

You will need the type of cross-over pipe shown in the following photos which does not include the flange or donut gasket. You will need to source those on your own. Pics shown here...

Does that make any sense?

Yes it makes sence. There where two styles of crossover and wastegate pipes.

I believe there is an early and late. My pipe is considerably different than the '87 and newer pipes that I have seen. I have an early two piece crossover.

That is an early style wastgate pipe (I believe and a late style crossover). They may still work fine together, I can tell you that the flange on the crossover is free to move on the early one.
