951 help please!
Hey everyone
ill tell you the car and what it has and the story that im dealing with now
86 951 - k29/8, 3 bar adj FPR, boost pipes, autothority maf kit, 18 to 20psi on manual boost controller and tial 38
okay so ive had this car for a new months now since my 83 burnt down. been a fantastic car and its my daily and it rips!
so i was driving to my gf softball game at wide world of sport and the car died on me then picked back up immediately. a few mins later it died again but didnt start back up. pull into the parking lot at the time popped the hood everything seemed alright. fired it up and ran perfectly.
later that night after the game it did the same thing on my way home but had to be towed because it would start but idle rough and died immediately if i have it throttle. next day i checked the entire fuel system. and went all to stock and new pump. no change. DME relay, DME and KLR still no change.but i let it sit for 2 days and i went to start it up again and it idle perfectly and ran great. i even replaced the the temp sensor for the dme thinking it was in a limp mode so i let it idle for a while and bled the system and let it idle for a hour or so and reved it every so often. took it out a min later and it died on me 2 miles down the road. it has full boost and all then just cruising and it died then fired right back up then died completely and would start but run rough and then stall if given any throttle or let it idle more than 10 secs.
car is still doing the same thing it will run fantastic idleing and a 5 min drive up and down my street but die afterwards.
i also did tps stock chips with DME KLR and AFM stock reg. spare dampener new plugs cap, rotor wires.
Coil heat soaking? or speed and reference sensors failing in an odd way for me?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

SRS or dme relay or the dme itself

even today car starts run fines. drives for 20 mins at operating temp. then died out. something has to be heat soaking. speed and reference ohmed good before and after. .3 .4 ohm on all grounds. but i did notice in the speed and reference harness side had a small probe hole with a little corrosion but i ohmed it out from the dme to the plug .3 .4 as well. all in range. so im thinking coil.
any one have any other ideas?
thanks again and thanks lart

Coil is easy to change so worth a try but I doubt it. The wiring to the SR sensors is suspect. If the DME does not see the SR sensors correctly the DME will no-fire. Heat can cause intermittent failure. Inspect carefully the sensor connectors at the harness interface. Also, I would inspect the solder joints on the DME. Just some thoughts. Hope you get it sorted.

SRS = speed reference sensors

Most definitely a connector problem. These wires are old and the sleeves deteriorate over time

sorry Lart never heard them called that. thank again.
Shawn - I'm going to check resistance between the DME and SRS plugs tomorrow after the car fails again tomorrow. also swap coil. but i like the rewiring of the DME to SRS harness side anyways so i will do that as well.
thanks lart, shawn, and 951Porscheiste!!
ill update tomorrow
