I'm looking to order tires for my 1987 944 turbo which has 17 in wheels on it. the car currently has:

Front: 235/40R17 90W
Rear: 255/40R17 94W

Looking on tire rack they recommend:

Front: 205/50R17
Rear: 255/40R17

A friend of mine is using

Front: 205/40R17
Rear: 255/40R17

I want to order the correct tire any help here?

The larger tire up front will give you better cornering. You may want to look at the aspect ratio to get them the same out side diameter. Helps with the ABS

Looks like 7in up front and 8.5in in the back. I hate to switch to the 205 when I haven't had an issue with the 235 up front, though 235 may be on the wide end. When I upgraded wheels they had the wider fronts on them already.
