Default okay rennlisters, what is wrong with my head?

...is a loaded question. What was I thinking when I pulled my engine and was it a good choice?

Also, (and mainly) what is that coating on the exhaust port on the head? See attached picture. Is it just a ton of carbon fowling deposited there?

I have the engine removed and was thinking of just a spruce up and cleaning but the more I look I think I need to rebuild. Thoughts?

Specifically what about it looks unhealthy? Should it not be mishaps mis shaped like curved? I have no idea what a good one looks like.

Also I don't know if this is second nature, but I found that although I couldn't find any m12 x 1.5 bolts 75mm long at the hardware store for mounting the engine on the stand, you can use the front subframe mounting bolts to mount the engine to the stand. I was proud of myself for that one. Ok I know I am probably not the smartest guy to be working on my car, but that one made me feel like a genius.

So the ceramic on this head is toasted or are you saying in general, bad ceramic equals bad head? Or both.

Thanks for your input. Glad I ripped this thing apart. Guess the head is coming off. Anything else I should do to this while it is out?

To quote Fast924s in another current thread "You already have the engine out, Full reseal, New rings and bearings, new guides and a valve job, Belts and rollers, might even wanna do the clutch while the engine is out, Then you'll be good for another 100,000" This can be a slippery slope if you start with upgrades... but thats also where the fun is

I have a 2.5L turbo head completely redone that was intended for one of my "long term" project cars, but I've changed direction and am going to a 3.0L block for it. If you are in need of a ready to go cylinder head, I have one available.

Shoot me a PM if you'd like to see pictures.

I would definitely inspect the turbine as the loose ceramic may have caused some damage. Hopefully not but I would have a look.
