Power Steering Pump
Has anyone converted to an electric hydraulic power steering pump? If you have can you give a run down on the bits and pieces you used? I am on my third pump in a year, keep blowing the front seal.

The new electric PS pump is installed, plumbed in and the electrics are hooked up. I ended up using the electric powered hydraulic steering pump for the Boxster / Cayman. One of the lessons learned is that all that steel tubing around the rack is there for a reason, it is a very tight fit.
The plumbing requires that you modify the power hydraulic line going to the rack, we ended up cutting off the metal end and welding on a -6 fitting.
The pump is manually switched on, in my case it took 2 switches as I have an Odessy battery.
We located the pump outside the right frame rail in front of the inner fender.
Oh and it is silky smooth.

Is that a Porsche Motorsports part? I was considering that for my R I I had kept tracking it. What was the ballpark for parts and/or installation if you don't mind? Also weight? Does it have a provision for amount of assist? I have a de powered rack in my 944 (soon to be formerly) spec car and it's a beast at lower speeds with 225 tires. I'm going to be around 275's or more up front when I go wide body and I don't think my arms will take it ;-)
Thanks,
Jay

I got the pump through GSR Autosport, be prepared for sticker shock. Total cost was around 1300 as it was DIY. The reasons I went this route is that I am presently running 275s up front and an oversized radiator which limits the room for a standard pump (which I was replacing a couple of times per year). The 275s will take the steering wheel away from you if you do not have PS. It is wired for Caymans / Boxsters and I believe it can be made to be variable, check with GSR.
