Honestly, once it's setup correctly it looks like it could be a monster... It's running a standalone, and that turbo looks big. Custom intake and fuel lines.....

Agreed with fast. Looks like once complete could be very very nice. A little goofy in the first pic, but certainly understand why they did that.

Insulating the turbo increases its efficiency. Hot gas has more energy than cold. The turbo pictured was probably suffering other problems (leaking hotside) along with not being allowed to cool off properly before being shut off. Turbo timers or letting the car idle for 2-3 minutes will extend the turbo life greatly, most 951 owners aren't well versed in this practice due to the water cooled turbos.

While it may not be the most pretty setup, how many people have actually attempted to turbo'ed a n/a? Gotta give him credit for doing something out of the box, most of us just bolt on pre-made parts.. .

He's doing some impressive stuff. Not sure it's built for track racing but I like the different way he does things.

There is a bit of a language barrier there talking to him.
The caps feels like i'm getting yelled at lol!

But yes, he's got some interesting things going on. As far as i can tell. That intake is just a factory intake cut with a 3" pipe welded on. with the stock TB.

If only i had a 2nd intake laying around. and well... Time too.

He said he was running a deck plate too. I've asked for a picture. Good for him though. I like seeing guys like him and Tim in England doing things a little differently.

Everyone generally does things similarly as they've seen it done before.

If you gave an aussy shop who do mostly RBs and SRs one of our motors. it would be very different that what we do.

For example,
Intake manifold would be similar to that intake, 4 short runners and a straight 3" log.
Probably deck plate it with an MLS or factory gasket no deckplate
a brand we haven't heard of pistons and rods. 2.5L
off the shelf cam, probably web cam (easiest to find)
gt35R turbo or something similar in size.
aftermarket ECU (what ever the builder is familiar with)
Head work would probably be limited to porting.
Probably remove the balance shafts.

They'd use parts and brands they've used before. not the stuff we would use.

The intake manifold looks pretty interesting. Some one spent some time on that, not the usual Frankenstein parts!
And yes, you want to keep all the heat inside the system you can until after the turbo. Many people believe that the turbo is driven by the 'speed' of the exhaust gasses (like a pinwheel) - in reality the turbo is driven by heat. Check out Gay-Lussac's law (always fun to quote that law!).

The one thing that I see that is interesting is the temp sensor before the turbo. Not really sure what that is for. Bad place to measure intake temps, the intake charge is about to be heated up due to compression!

I think his "presentation" needs work. He posted that first pic up and said he's running 28psi. No other comments, except "YOU LIKE IT? THEN LIKE IT" and it just kinda got weird for a bit. Sounds like he's done quite a few builds but the language barrier makes it difficult.
