I bought a 1986 951 a few months ago. The car has an unknown maintenance history, but runs strong and has I believe good, even compression (about 110-115psi) across all 4 cylinders. I know enough about the cars after reading about every post on this board that I need to replace the cam belt, and as soon as I get the tension tool I am going to be working on that. It has some wiring issues so I cut and soldered new wires in the harness. The constant opening and shutting of the drivers door had cracked the wires in that area (all 20) and although most still worked I just went ahead and fixed all of them. In addition I replaced all the fluids and I think my next project is to be converting to a manual sun roof. Thanks to whoever mentioned Sid Vicious in a previous post on this website. Looks very simple to do!
I just decided to post tonight to say thanks to the community here for introducing me to such an awesome car. Although it is very much a work in progress I could not be happier.

My old 951, I think, is still floating around.

Your 'belt job' needs to include all the rollers/tensioners - that's the key!

Here is a picture when I first got the 951. Notice the vise grips holding the hood up.
Thank you Chris for the advice, I will make sure I replace all of it. She has had a hard life from what I can tell.
