Sounds like his axle came loose... Hard to tell from the 'high quality' microphone...

Engine is fine, something in the drive line let go... 1st 2nd 3rd and reverse no movement just grinding, did not try 4th or 5th.

Axles felt ok, will investigate further next weekend.

With the emergency brake on and the engine running, I put the car in gear, and took a peek under the car to see what was and wasnt moving. I took a peek at the driveshaft inside of the torque tube, seemed ok. The axle stub was moving, another plus...But the axle wasnt turning. Replaced the axle and I was good to go.

Look on the bright side, you were able to finish your run before it let go!

It seems like one of three things break on these cars: traction, axles or R&P. I could believe the R&P letting go, it looks like you nailed it in 2nd, it hooked, you hit peak torque and something had to give.

Thanks guy's, all part of the modification game, the more we push these car something is going to give. The video does not show it well but there are several 350 ft lb bursts in 2nd gear, including the "money shot". r-comps.... weak link 2nd gear.... bound to happen.

I'm just glad it did not happen the weekend before at Barber.

I see an S2 AOT going in over the winter

Lart, Josh B let me know if you come across one

I expected to see chunks of aluminum when I drained the fluid, but what I saw was a metallic sheen and a few small pin head size chunks flow out.

Yea, I have drained gearboxes on these cars before expecting to see carnage and seen the same. A few small chunks but mostly fine particles.

Transaxle grinding - YouTube
Sounds like the ring gear is missing a few teeth!
