Default lexan rear hatch install

I have a spare lexan rear glass out of a frame and a spare 944 hatch.

I took a hammer to the glass in the 944 hatch, and now i'm trying to get the rest of the glass bits out of the frame.

Whats the easiest way to do this? im scraping with a screw driver. I'm assuming I have to get all the glass bits out of the frame. Can the spoiler come off? I cant quite figure out how that works.

Any other hints to make the install easier?

Heat gun makes it a lot easier to get the glass and glue off, but I found it a slow process. The spoiler is removable.

Smashing the window is probably making it much, much harder.

We did a lexan hatch for the ChumpCar - and we got the old frame off (after undoing the nuts/screws for the spoiler and trim), but heating up the frame and pushing some little wooden wedges in all the way around. It's say in 15 minutes the frame was off.

I got the rest of the glass out using a heat gun. I agree with van that if you ahve help and a heat gun, it would be easier NOT to break the glass. by myself, it would have been hard just dealing with the weight.

Now to install my lexan. the one I have is from an old chump car. it doesnt seem to fit too well. Going to have to trim it up a bit.

for mounting the lexan did you use rivits and a couple of aluminum straps? that is my current thinking.

We glued and clamped the hatch to the frame, then made 2 aluminum strips to prevent deflection of the center.

Bought it from Apex Performance. It was about $400.

No. ChumpCar specifies that you can't run with a glass hatch (no glass other than the windshield). However, it's a fire hazard to run with a big open hole back there that will suck any under-car flames into the cockpit - so a lexan hatch (and side windows) fall under the "safety item" category.

Interestingly enough, for PCA SP1 class, which we've also run the car, lexan hatches are not allowed (performance benefit), so we've had to remove it. It's now on my SP2 race car - that class *does* allow lexan windows to be used.

Another question here. I got my lexan installed and am mounting alum strips on the outside to keep in place. I'm attaching to the top and bottom of the frame the alum is 1/8" thick and it's thick enough to keep the spoiler from going on easily. I could ground 1/8" strips out of the bottom of the spoiler, but wanted to see what others have done

Can you take a razor blade or dremel tool and make little grooves in the rubber to accommodate?

Little more than that. The spoiler is backed with metal, so I need to grind out the grooves. That's the current plan at least

Van:

Have you made a tutorial or a video on how to remove the rear hatch glass for a reseal? My hatch is starting to delaminate and I need to reseal it. I suppose it is pretty straight forward, but never attempted this before. Is the Window Weld the proper sealant to use? Yes, I should have done a search first, but didn't.
