Default Rear Trailing Arms

Does anyone know if the rear trailing arms from a '91 944S2 are interchangeable with those on my '89 951? The right arm on the S2 shows p/n 951.331.514.0, while mine shows 951.331.514.4R. I don't know what the 4R suffix indicates.
Thanks,
Gary

The only difference should be the composition of the rubber bushing. Your 951 has M030 and the bushing is made of a more dense material. That is unless the S2 also has M030.

FWIW all of the rear arms have been superseeded to a new number 944.331.021.01 and require some additional parts.

So yes it should fit.

Thanks Chris. I didn't realize the rear bushings were different on the M030. But I assume the harder bushings are available and can be fitted.
BTW, what kind of additional parts does the newer arm require?

A pair of retaining plates 964.331.199.02 and four bolts N 010 340 6. I don't believe that replacement bushings are available for the rear. You could always go to spherical.

Yeah I see Racer's Edge has the rear trailing arm spherical bushings for "only" $320 a pair. I wonder if they really make much of a difference by themself.

No they don't, not by themself.

I have all rubber removed from the suspension of my track car, with spherical bushings everywhere, and with all mounts in metal, and then you enter a different world. Would never do that on a street car though.

BTW, $320 for a pair of spherical bushings is not that bad a price...

Do rubber bushings wear with age? (I would of thought rubber hardens with age) Would there be benefit refitting new ones? Would it be noticeable? Less sway? or as HansB says upgrade the lot but not for road use - speed boat on ice I presume?
