You guys crack me up sometimes. Enthusiasm for the 951 is great... but cars have come a long way since then. Honestly I'd hesitate to get involved in a stoplight-to-stoplight run against a V6 Camry nowadays... my car may be faster, but not by much... and unless you're running up to 110mph and the full 1/4, the Camry has enough nuts to stay at least next to my door, I'm sure. If one caught me off guard at a light it would be a bit of work for me to get around it.

To be fair.. he DID say "V6".

I think the current Camaro is REALLY cool looking. A futuristic twist on a classic design. But I've driven a couple, and while the build quality is eons better than the 4th gen F-body, they handle well, and are reasonably quick... good God they SUCK to see out of. I've lost an entire Nissan Pathfinder in the C-pillar blind spot before.

I still don't get the reason for dropping a V8 in a car like the 944 Turbo. You kill the way the car was designed. You could get a Corvette for about the same money and have a much more modern suspension setup and brakes.

...Jim if you have a Camry sticking with you, then you need to run more then 5psi of boost, or put some weight in you shoes!

Jim:

I drove the new SS when it came out and I totally agree with you on the outward vision. Totally killed the car for me. However the Vette does not have this issue. I wish they made a Z06 convertible, I really want a convertible, especially here in Cali.

New V6 Camry's run low 14s! My guess is that my car is probably somewhere in the mid/low-13s. One second at the end of the 1/4 is good BUT most stoplight stuff rarely ever goes more than a few hundred feet. A short stoplight to stoplight run, if the Camry gets the jump, and I spin a bit or bog the launch... it will be close enough to be a little embarrassing.

From: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...el_comparison/
the new SE V-6 preserves the 268-hp 2GR-FE engine and six-speed automatic; but thanks to a 134-pound weight loss, it is now considerably quicker. Zero to 60 takes a scant 5.8 seconds (yes, unlike the old 6.2-second car, the new Camry is officially a sub-6.0 sprinter) and the quarter mile just 14.2 at a heady 100.6 mph (versus 14.6 at 96.8). That '93 M5 and 500E? They needed 6.2 and 14.6 at 96.7, and 6.3 and 14.7 at 96.9, respectively.

They make one, they just don't call it a Z06. They call it the 427 convertible.

Too bad I can't afford a new one! I was referring to the C6 Z06, which is good enough for me. Wow, that C-7 drop top is sweet though! I have never financed a car ever, but maybe just maybe, nah, I will wait.

I'm sure you can get pretty close to $10k for a used C5.

And the interior really isn't any worse.

Some never seem to understand the enormous stress on a small engine making big power vs a large engine making the same power ( and barely sweating), they simply point out " I roasted a 'vette with my 951 coming home from work on interstate X". Sure, making 150hp/liter for 10 or 20 second bursts is one thing, it's another to run it for a 30 minute session....

Keep it Porsche? The whole front engine water cooled design was blasphemy at Porsche. Proper Porsches were rear engined and water cooled, so to hell with 'I want to keep a Porsche engine in my Porsche'

I'm tracking and autoxing my 951. When, and it's definitely a when, the motor grenades, time for Chebby power!

Here's one for $10,800. I'm sure you could negotiate him down to $10k or so.

Interesting.

So this is a 'proper Porsche' then?

I take it you lack reading comprehension skills. See page 2.

The Corvette is one of the best cars GM builds. I realize that may not be saying much when compared to some of their other products... but the C5 is actually a pretty damned good car - this coming from me, someone who has owned a very wide array of cars including 2 new Audis and an older BMW. Sure the climate control unit and radio might be a "parts bin" unit but it's straightforward and easy to use. Overall the interior is actually pretty nice. Seats are comfortable. The dash cluster has this sort of 3D effect with each gauge on its own plane, so to speak. The chassis is fantastic, the power is great especially when you factor in the fuel economy.

Your ignorance makes it clear to me you've never driven a C5 (let alone a new one), nor ever been in the market to actually buy something new in that price range.

Saw that blog a few weeks ago and I was totally surprised the rear of the car lightening up with a LS1. Very cool swap.

I hope you read my sarcasm with the 'proper Porsche' references. I've been around Porsches and into 951s for years, and I always get sick of hearing peoples opinions on the 944 platform. Not a real Porsche, real Porsches are rear engined, 4 cylinder cars aren't rear Porsches, your car was built by Volkswagen...

So there's no reason to be afraid of ruining your 944 with an engine swap, you'll still hear those comments at car meets...
