Let us know how they do it, so far I replaced the 2 rear panel and 2 of the door speakers with Alpines. Next is the tweeters and the hard to find square 3.5s on the door. Are you getting new door panels as well?

If I decide to go with them it could not start until April at the earliest. That might be the limiting factor. They are quite steep as well, I was planning on $5K for the install, but they are more like $10-13K! That is hard to stomach in a $17K car if I was lucky.

I put my system together in my car(RIP Ole Girl) and it was under $1000. The headunit was $300(Kenwood BT900 awesome by the way), infinity amp(used CC reward points to purchase), JBL 8" reduced depth sub in KLA box, and alpine speakers up front. I didn't replace the rear's as it was recommended to me not to "mess up the soundstage". It wasn't the easiest install to do, but overall I was very happy with the results.

I understand having a nice stereo in a car. I don't need head blasting or heart stopping bass, but I do need low end for my music tastes.

Or you could get rid of the car and buy a new car with a nicer stereo. I could take your current car off your hands.

I think I figured out the link:

Take a look at this install! I can see my rear seats coming out all ready!

Now this is a car stereo...

Maybe he should have bought a real turbo as opposed to spending 15k on a stereo and 20 bucks on turbo badges and slapping them on a non-turbo. Besides investing 15k in a 996 C2/4 is a utter waste.

I think your budget of 5k is more than enough, find another place.

Here is a car more in our genre, a 1988 original BMW M3:

Tastefully done in my opinion and not over the top like the 996. I agree with you on the faking the turbo stuff. I still like the stereo though, especially the downward firing subs where the back seats used to be. This could easily be done in our cars, well the idea anyway, not the execution.

I have a 1989 M3 and anything more than stock strains what is already a under-powered car. I love my M3 but a well optioned Accord takes it to task.

Still like the stereo, I guess if you can't be fast, you better be loud.
